R&D for creatives

The workshop of a multidisciplinary artist

El taller de PACA didn’t start with a business plan; it grew out of frustration. The frustration of having to fragment a project across multiple manufacturers, and the friction and compromises that come with it. Behind the workshop is Daniel Palacios, a contemporary artist whose work has been acquired by the Science Museum de Londres, CosmoCaixa Barcelona and the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, with a track record of collaborations for brands like Nike, Adidas, Nissan and Verizon.

The workshop began as a personal solution to produce his own complex pieces without relying on third parties. Over time, it naturally evolved into a space with its own rhythm and clientele. Transitioning from a private studio to an open production hub was a natural step when fellow artists and designers began requesting help to bring their own ideas to life. Tools and machinery were progressively added to solve specific, real-world challenges faced by other professionals: architects, design studios, advertising agencies, event producers, and entrepreneurs…

Today, this space remains the active workshop where DanielPalacios Studio develops its work, while opening its specialized production capabilities to external projects that carry a true creative vision.
As creatives with our own projects, we’ve been exactly where you are. When we take on a project, we don’t treat it as a job; we approach it with the same care and intensity as if it were our own. On a design level, we speak your language and use your tools. On a production level, we believe technique is part of the concept, not a separate step, and we guide you through it.
We don’t chase volume, we prioritize projects where the making matters as much as the thinking.

Never standing still

The project rules, the workshop adapts

Through different names and cities, including a decade in Germany, the workshop has evolved alongside the challenges it has faced. What might seem like an eclectic mix of machinery is simply the natural result of tackling complex problems instead of specializing in a single service. This has made us specialists in solving projects from end to end. We are not just an operator at the end of an assembly line; we are the production partner we wish we had found when we started.

When a project enters the workshop, we consider everything surrounding it: the intent behind it, the real constraints, and the absolute best material for the job. From there, we work to ensure the result is what it needs to be, not just what is easiest or cheapest to manufacture. Sometimes that means developing a process from scratch. It means testing alternatives before committing to certainties. It means that if something won’t work, we tell you before it costs more to fix than to do right the first time. And it means you are part of the process, not just the final delivery.

Above all, we are driven by curiosity, looking for options where others see a limit, and materializing what seemed impossible. Every project is an opportunity to learn. In its current setup, our workshop spans 300m² across two floors, integrating multiple disciplines under one roof. A space in constant adaptation, designed to elevate what makes your project unique, and to match the creativity of those behind it.

FAQ

We are in Casabermeja, just 20 minutes from Málaga, 60 from Granada, 90 from Córdoba, and two hours from Seville. If you’d like to visit the workshop or discuss a project in person, just drop us a message first so we can schedule it.

Not at all. We handle projects for clients all over Spain and regularly work with international designers, artists, and studios from our time in Berlin. Distance is never an issue when communication is smooth; plus logistics nowadays have come a long way and is not the issue it was two decades ago.

Yes, it’s a core part of what we do. However, everything works best when we are involved early in the process, while there is still room to make smart decisions regarding materials and techniques, allowing the technical design to grow in parallel. Executing a locked, rigid design with zero room for technical optimization is rarely where we add the most value.

Talking is free, engineering solutions is not. Generally, we will ask for your target budget range to evaluate if it is realistic for the scale of the project. If it aligns, we will provide a clear workflow and cost estimate. If a project requires extensive preliminary research, custom prototyping, or site visits just to draft a detailed quote, that development phase carries a fee that we always agree upon beforehand.

Before discussing numbers, we need to understand what you want to build, the deadline, and the budget you are working with. Not to adjust our price to your pocket, but because we build bespoke solutions, and those three variables dictate what is technically viable. With enough time and budget, almost anything can be solved. Without one of the two, we have to make compromises instead of decisions. That’s why we ask for a ballpark figure upfront, to steer the project toward a realistic solution from the start.

If it’s a standardized, mass-production job that any commercial workshop can do cheaper, we are probably not the right fit. We don’t thrive in projects where price is the sole metric, or jobs requiring an invisible manufacturer who adds no creative value. If you are looking for the lowest bidder, that’s not us. If you are looking for something exceptional, built exactly to your expectations, we should talk.

The workshop is directed by Daniel Palacios, who is personally involved in the development and production of every single project. Depending on the scale and specific technical demands of a project, we assemble tailored teams of specialized regular collaborators. We are a lean team but hold a massive infrastructure, which gives us a huge advantage: you always know exactly who you are talking to, while allowing us to pivot and move incredibly fast.

It stands for Producción de Artesanía Contemporánea Andaluza (Production of Contemporary Andalusian Craftsmanship).
It is also a nod to Paca, a traditional Andalusian name that reminds us of those old-school artisan women with steady hands and pride in a job well done, from an era when craftsmanship sustained entire communities.

By appointment only, yes. We don’t keep the doors open for spontaneous walk-ins since we are usually mid-production, but if you have a project in mind and want to see our capabilities, send us a message and we will gladly arrange a visit.

If our philosophy resonates with you, send us an email telling us a bit about yourself, your interests, and what you feel you can bring to the team. Most importantly: attach a portfolio. It’s great to know where you studied or worked, but what we really want to see is how you apply that knowledge in the real world.

Ready to build?

If your project has a standard off-the-shelf solution, we are likely not your most economical choice.
If it doesn’t, let’s talk.
